Veramarie Meyer

Mezzo soprano Veramarie enrolled at the Technikon Pretoria for the National Diploma:  Performing Art:  Opera – there she sang the role of Orlofski in Die Fledermaus followed by the role of Dido in Dido and Aeneas at the Roodport City Theatre.  During her final year of study she sang the role of Madame Flora in The Medium to critical acclaim.  In 1998 she was invited by the San Francisco Conservatory of Music to sing the role of Cherubinio in Le Nozze di Fiagaro at their Summer Workshop.  A year later she was chosen to sing in Mimi Coertse’s Debut with Mimi and became a member of The Black Tie Ensemble where she has travelled to numerous parts of the country and world.

She studied with Tippi de Kock during her school years and with Lorraine Havemann at the Technikon Pretoria where she was awarded the Pretorium Trust and SAMRO Bursary, the Morrison Trophy and bursary as well as the prestigious Chancellor’s Medal.
 
Veramarie put her studies forth in singing at the University of Cape Tonwn under Sarita Stern.  There she sang the role of Zeltarice in Suor Angelica, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, 3rd and 2nd lady in Zauberflote as well as the title role of the world premier Amarantha by ThomasRajna.  She has also appeared as soloist in oratoria such as Mozart Requiem, Pergolesi Stabat Mater, Handel’s Messiah and the Rachmaninov Vespers, recitals such as An di Music presented by Mimi Coertse and numerous concerts.

Veramarie performed the role of Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music at the Playhouse Company (Durban) and shortly after that extracts from Der Rosenkavalier and Tales of Hoffman.
